Listen up!

I’m Emra and I’ve been meal prepping since about 2020. I’m not vegan or vegetarian, I’m not trying to lose weight, I’m not a gym rat, and I don’t care about macro or micro nutrients. Additionally, I’m not a trained chef and I don’t know shit about food science. In fact, until I was about 30, I didn’t know how to cook. I’m just some asshole trying to figure it out as I go.

It turns out that cooking is just like every other skill on planet Earth: nobody is born with it, you just have to learn by doing. You can watch all the tutorials and read all the books but you won’t be good at it until you just fucking try.

I got into meal prep when my husband got his first FitBit and we discovered just how many calories he burns in a workday (you don’t even want to know - it’ll make you feel bad about yourself). He kept coming home exhausted and hungry and feeling like dog shit because he was eating fast food every day. In turn, that made me feel like an asshole because I really like cooking but I wasn’t cooking for him much. So, I decided to give meal prep a go and a few years later, here we are.

There were a lot of bad weeks, failed experiments, and shitty meals along the way. I fucked up a lot and I learned from those fuck ups. Now I’m sharing it all with you so maybe you’ll fuck up a little less.

Honestly, I hope this little Prep School experiment proves to be helpful to someone because meal prep has markedly improved my life and I think it will for other people too. It’s not for everyone, but maybe it’s for you.
